A Girls Weekend In Cape May

in Lifestyle, Travel

A #travel guide for a girls weekend in Cape May | spotofteadesigns.com

A few weeks ago, my bridemaids and a few close friends arranged for a great, relaxing weekend in Cape May New Jersey for my bachelorette girls weekend!  While the weather wasn’t so great the day we planned to beach it, we made the most of it and ended up having a pretty memorable experience that involved a flash flood.

I thought I’d put together a recap of our fun adventures in case other women are looking for a relaxing girls trip for themselves!

Where We Stayed:

Le Mer Beachfront Inn – It was overcast and drizzling when I took this photo, but I promise the hotel is normally more bright than this! Located on the north end of Cape May, our room was VERY spacious with a large, long room of 2 double beds and a pull out couch. The sheets weren’t as soft and comfy as we would’ve liked, but we enjoyed the beach tags and chairs that were included with our room rate for an easy beaching experience. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the other restaurants and retails shops of busy Cape May area, but we enjoyed a one way walk home from one of our nights out, so it’s doable! We took the free trolley ride there (which is also included in your room rate!)

Where We Played:

Cape May Day Spa – One afternoon we made four appointments in the same block for relaxing Swedish massages. It was the first spa I’ve been to that provided robes and disposal flip-flops upon entering! After completing our services, we met for a cup of chocolate chai tea in their little cafe room to complete our day spa experience. If you plan to try them out, ask for Linda who did an awesome job on my massage time!

Cape May Lighthouse & Sunset Beach – After walking around the Washington Street Mall, we drove down County Highway 629, also known as Lighthouse Ave, to hit a few of the historic sites. We went to the end and first saw Sunset Beach which held remnants of an old concrete ship from World War I. (who thought concrete would be a good material for a ship?). We then made our way back to see the lighthouse and a World War II bunker. This would be the place to go if you were looking for some history and culture!

Self Guided Wine Tour  – After grabbing a quick bagel breakfast, we made our way out to Hawk Haven and Natali Vineyards for a back to back south Jersey wine tasting experience. For only $8 a ticket, you were able to visit both vineyards with a 5-6 wine tasting each and walked away with a souvenir wine glass. (What they don’t tell you is there’s a rather large ad on one side of the glass that isn’t very flattering to keep). I recommend doing as we did and going to Natali Winery second and parking yourself outside at their tables to enjoy a cheese and cracker picnic with your wine!

Where We Ate:

The Ugly Mug – Nestled on a corner section of Washington Street, the Ugly Mug was our first stop where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. I had the chicken sandwich and while very good, warning, it’s a HUGE piece of chicken! Two of the other girls enjoyed the much requested lobster roll seen above. We sat outside (side note: Cape May is a great place to people watch) but check out the website for the story about the mugs hanging up inside!

Mad Batter – The first night we enjoyed out dinner here on the open porch area. I had the fish and chips which were yummy but nothing too special. But I HIGHLY recommend the Guava Orange Colada seen front and center in the above photo. It was a yummy frozen drink which included Cruzan Guava Rum, Pina Colada and Orange for a smooth, delicious taste!

Cucina Rosa – On our last night, we ate upstairs at the adorable Cucina Rosa. As it was a BYOB establishment, we came prepared with one mega bottle of wine that we were able to finish before leaving! I know the girls I’m wish usually go for dessert but we were happily stuffed by the end of our meal!

Going Out:

Rusty Nail – After our first dinner at the Mad Batter, we made the short walk over to the Rusty Nail. It was so cute with the outside seating around a large fire pit! We were surprised to learn that the outside fire pit area closed up at 10, but we made our way inside to listen to the cover band and enjoy some cheap beers!

Boiler Room – Diagonally across the street from Cucina Rosa is Congress Hall a beautifully, historic hotel. Downstairs you’ll find the Boiler Room, a “night club,” as they call it. Yes, there’s a bar and a band and room for dancing, but the music was a little older than our liking that night. I did enjoy hanging at the table, watching the live tv monitors which displayed the band and dancers, another great way to people watch (a favorite past time of mine!)

Thanks again for putting this fun weekend together, girls! :)
