Valentine’s Window Play: Cheap, easy and fun activity for toddlers

in Celebrations, Crafts & DIY, Kids' Crafts, Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day Window Play for #toddlers. Cheap and easy! | spotofteadesigns.com

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so it’s time to start mixing in some heart/love themed activities for the little Miss! One windy, COLD afternoon, I put together a Valentine’s Themed Window Play that is cheap, simple and allowed her to explore!

Supplies:

  • Craft Foam Sheets
  • Scissors
  • Shallow tray or plate with a small amount of water

I cut out heart shapes from both white and red foam sheets we have left over from Derek’s Mario Halloween costume a few years ago. I made loosey goosey hearts that had no template and were all different shapes and sizes.

While she was sleeping, I laid down a towel near our sliding glass door, put a little bit of water on a tray and placed the heart shapes inside. Craft foam sheet shapes easily stick to a window with just a bit of water so this was the easiest way to get them a tiny bit wet without her knocking over a bowl.

When she woke up and was ready for play I introduced her to the play area and showed her how it worked. Soon she was splashing around with the water the tray, lifting some of the hearts and sticking them to the window.

I let her play with them for a while and left whatever configuration she made. It was fun to watch her create and play! And man was that towel a good idea! She spilled out all the water by the end of her playtime.

She also had fun brushing them all off onto the floor!

And YES my windows were all streaky and dirty from her hands but she had fun and it was a simple thing I could clean up. BTW Have you used Clorox Glass Wipes? I got them for free with printable coupons and discounts and I LOVE how easy they are to use and how I get a streak free shine! I used them after her playtime and it looks like her sticky fingers were never on our sliding glass door!

She is so cute!! And such an interesting way to keep her busy :)

When my kid was little, the mess would drive me crazy. but he’s 3 now, so in 3 years he has gotten a lot less messy AND my tolerance level has improved a lot too!

LATEST GRAMS

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
