Valentine’s Day is almost 1.5 months into the new year, where sadly most people drop off of their new years resolution goals. Give into the deliciousness of the holiday with a fun Valentine’s Day mantle surrounding a well loved food group: carbs! When we were looking to buy our house, I fell in love with the fact that we had a fireplace mantle! I don’t really care about having an actual fire burning there (though hubby loves it) but I love that there’s another place to decorate for the seasons! This Valentine’s Day season I decided to go with something I love: carbs!
It all started with this little set of Carb friends I had designed YEARS ago when I had an active Cafepress shop. They’ve always been in the back of my mind as something I wanted to incorporate in another place in my creative world.
Well this little design (which you can download for free) became the inspiration for this carb themed Valentine’s Day mantle when mixing in some pinks and reds!
The centerpiece this mantle is an old canvas I painted over with a little rough paint edges. I added this “I love carbs” phrase (which you can also download for free as a SVG file) using Premium Sparkle Vinyl.
It’s really pretty in person as it literally sparkles as you move to look at it, but it’s super hard to photograph to show that off!
I had these two metal hearts for YEARS, bought at a craft store on clearance so I happily spruced them up with more vinyl.
When my mom came over and asked who created this dried pasta heart canvas, I think she expected me to say one of the girls.
But nope that was me who glued them all on to fit my “I love carbs” mantle! It was an easy one to create with whatever pasta shape I happened to have in the pantry.
The Target dollar spot has these cute $1 pink heart tins that I upcycled into mini flower vases with the help of some paper shred, Styrofoam discs and artificial pink flowers!
The felt garland below was the icing on the cake, giving a little texure and whimsy to this mostly blocky mantle display.
I’m happy to report that the two mini tins and the felt ball garland were the only 2 new purchases I made to create this fun Valentine’s Day mantle!
