Disclosure: I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Dover International Speedway.  I received complimentary tickets to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for my participation at the conclusion of the program. My family is a NASCAR family so I happily took on this opportunity! Know that I only promote items, services and opportunities we use and enjoy! Read my disclosure policy here.

Besides the above photo, as part of my Photography Challenge: Over the Shoulder Perspective post, SOTD regular readers might not know that my family is into NASCAR. My husband, Derek, has been hosting a fantasy NASCAR league for the past few years, spending his Monday nights updating his mega spreadsheet, his Wednesdays talking strategy on his pick for the upcoming weekend and his weekends actually enjoying the race. Before little miss came along, we attended a few races together with friends and he went to even more with his crew.

We’ve sat on the infield of Pocono races.

He’s enjoyed packed Daytona and Bristol races in the warm sun and wet rain.

2009VegasTruex

Together we’ve met a slew of drivers, including Martin Truex Jr. at the Vegas track!

My brother-in-law, Frank, got a special hook up for that Vegas race where all four of us got “HOT” All-Access passes allowing us on pit lane before the race, in the garages during it and…

even got us a lap riding in the pace car as part of the pre-race activities! I’m in the back seat as we’re riding down pit lane before hitting the famous angled curves!

May 31st, however, we’re introducing this sport to smallest member of our family as Brielle will have her first ever NASCAR experience at Dover Speedway’s Monster Mile for the Fed Ex 400! Yes we’re bringing our then 21 month old to a NASACR race, especially after hearing about the family friendly initiatives at the Dover Speedway, including the new kids club called “Monster Mile Youth Nation.” This club is for race fans ages 14 and under, giving the little ones an opportunities to explore the sport of NASCAR. For $20 a year these young fans get a Free FanVision rental on one race weekend, free welcome gift (things like water bottle, merchandise coupon and diecast car), special VIP area at the Monster FunZone and exclusive access to race weekend activities.

Here we are in 2007 at Dover (where he’s supporting Martin Truex Jr’s then #1 number car and I’m obviously a Kasey Kahne #9 fan!) This year’s FedEx 400 race benefits Autism Speaks and includes a bunch of family friendly activities BEFORE the race even starts.  They’re holding concerts (Jerrod Niemann, Cassadee Pope and Thompson Square), have this Monster FunZone, and a FanZone, food and shopping for all your NASCAR merchandise, NASCAR driver Q&A and autograph sessions and picnic areas when it’s time to take a break.

Yes, while we have met a few drivers (including Dave Blaney at the Richmond race) and we have a bunch of the driver autographs, Derek’s never attended a Q&A session of one of the drivers. At this race, we’ll have a chance to sit in on one with Jimmie Johnson! Event attendees (even the general public) can also get  Trackside Access before the race where they can roam the frontstretch of the track and watch the teams as they up get ready for race day!

If you’d like to join us at this year’s race, you have two options. First is to check out the affordable ticket packages at Dover International Speedway. Or from now until May 7th, they’re running a special sweepstakes to WIN some of the most sought after passes that the Monster Mile has to offer.

To enter to win and learn about the whole prize package, GO HERE! Some highlights include:

  • A family four pack of tickets for the May 31st NASCAR Spring Cup Series race
  • Pit Passes
  • A guided tour of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage
  • FanVision rental
  • Driver appearances by Danica Patrick and Joey Logano

Look for an upcoming post showing how Brielle did at her first NASCAR race!

🐚 Draw out a stencil of your preferred shape. It's optional to paint the shape itself, but even a rough pencil line will keep you on task
🐚 Use strong glue and a lot of it! I used E6000 glue and ended up having to get more than what you see here.
🐚 Flip the shells over! There are some cool colors on the insides that may match better than the top side.
🐚 Clean and dry the shells thoroughly. Sorry, but I have no tips about this process as my mom had these ones for year from past trips, but you don't want some smelly shells hanging in your home!
🐚 Don't skip on those little shells as those minis are perfect to fill in the gaps of the collages.

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
