I love me a great coordinated dessert table, especially one made with items I already have in my home. For Brielle and Hailey’s Under the Sea themed birthday I transformed our kitchen table and hanging chandelier into a glimpse of the sea with a hanging octopus!
With a party that was destined to be both inside and out, I decided to focus on one area and the dessert table was it!
I removed the curtain and hung a blue plastic tablecloth on the curtain rod to cover the window and create the sea.
I used fishing line to hang the Paper Plate Fish and Sea Turtle crafts Brielle made earlier this summer and twisted a few pieces of crepe paper streamers to make seaweed for the dessert table’s backdrop.
To create the octopus I wrapped the chandelier in a purple tablecloth, tying it up with ribbon. 8 crepe paper streamers came out from this space to create the octopus! (If I ever have a Halloween party I can make this same look with black materials to make a spider!)
As you can imagine I take a lot of photos of each of my girls all year so I turned some of my favorites into a little photo garland showing the monthly growth of these birthday twins. Yes, some photos included the monthly photos in the DIY onesies (side note: Hailey was the fourth baby to wear this series!) and some were just cute sister shots. I took the fabric pennant banner gifted to Hailey by Elizabeth and hung it on milk crates from Hailey’s bookshelf. I love “shopping my home” when it comes to party staging! A few clothespins helped hang the monthly photos and a colorful second layer of dessert display was born!
A fishing net prop was laid on top and the yummy turtle cupcake and cake desserts were added on top.
To counter balance the sweets, I created a sail with a skewer and some patterned paper and stuck it in a cut watermelon. A fruit bowl boat was born and my Under the Sea dessert table was complete!
