Now that the weather is warmer and summer is closing in, I have a new challenge as a first time mom: how do you safely play outside with a baby?

Brielle outside playtime | spotofteadesigns.com

First, I didn’t know where to “place” her when outside. I had this picnic/beach blanket I purchased at Kohl’s last year that has a waterproof side and a soft fleece side. She will mostly stick around on here if I sit on it with her and give her lots of toys to play with.  But you know toys are never as interesting as the leaves and other things surrounding the blanket!

Second, I wasn’t sure how to protect her from the sun when our backyard has virtually no shade. We ended up setting up our deck umbrella to create a little shady space and I bought her this cute eyelet hat. I know there’s only a matter of time before she tears that thing off so I needed a new solution. As a first time mom, I found very little information on sunscreens that were affective and safe for babies who constantly touch their face/arms/hands all day long.

Luckily when I reached out to the team at Neutrogena, they helped me out and introduced me to their Pure and Free line of sunscreen! It contains a blend of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which are naturally sourced sunscreen ingredients, known to be gentle on sensitive skin. It feels thicker than the kind we always applied on ourselves and needed a little more work to blend in and not be so white. I had no issues with that, as I could then tell what areas I missed and where I had it applied! The best part about it is that it is a hypoallergenic tear-free formula so it’s safe for babies who rub their face a lot.

I’m happy to say that we’ve been enjoying lots of nice days with our Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Sunscreen applied and look forward to MANY more this summer!

Wearing flip flops, brunch outside, feeling the sun on your skin – anything really that gets me as far away from winter as possible!

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
