Mother’s Day Table | Paper Succulents on Napkin Rings

in Celebrations, Crafts & DIY, Mother's Day, Papercrafts

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching so it’s a great time to start working on handmade items or putting together a beautiful brunch for mom! This year consider hosting a beautiful brunch filled with lots of succulents plants, both as live decorations and as faux versions to accent your tablescape. Learn how to create paper succulents to add to napkin rings for your Mother’s Day table!

Succulents are adorable plants but if you’re prone to having a black thumb, try creating these paper versions instead! The steps below can be used to create a faux potted succulent plant or on a napkin ring for your Mother’s Day table like I did!

To create the paper succulent you will need:

  • Floral paper punches (I used a large retro flower and flowers and leaves but you could get away with other floral shapes, I’m sure)
  • Green cardstock
  • Ink
  • Scissors (My favorite ones for paper crafting are these Honeybee scissors)
  • Adhesive

First, punch a few floral shapes.

Ink all the edges.

Next, use scissors to separate the petals. Use your fingers to form them into dimensional shapes. You’ll use these to create different layers of the paper succulent design.

Using one scallop circle shape as your base, apply adhesive around the outer edge. Adhere down the bottoms of the dimensional petals from the previous step and keep the tops curved up and out. Continue all the way around to create the largest layer of the paper succulent.

Repeat the above steps to create a second inner layer.

Lastly adhere down the center of a scalloped flower shape curving the edges up and out. You want to create the layered 3D effect to truly make it look like a traditional dessert succulent plant.

Once complete, I added these paper designs to some paper scraps and doilies to finish the napkin rings.

These paper succulent napkin rings were part of the Mother’s Day Brunch I styled for Wholesale Party Supplies.

The whole party theme was inspired by these pretty plates featuring succulents and I think they worked perfectly together!
