No doubt, like all other things this year, Mother’s Day will be different. But one thing remains the same, moms and grandmas love handmade gifts! Tell the kids to get out their sketchbooks and draw a portrait of their favorite maternal person to create a DIY custom t-shirt featuring kid drawings!

My girls love their grandma and love to draw pictures so I put two and two together so they could create a one-of-a-kind gift for her this Mother’s Day!
First, I asked them both to draw a picture of their grandma.
Hailey did two drawings as she wasn’t satisfied with her lack of curly hair in the first picture. Brielle also wrote the words “World’s Greatest Grandma” on a separate paper.
I then took a photo of both their drawings and traced it in illustrator in order to upload it as an SVG for my Cricut machine. I know there are other ways you upload a JPG image and convert it to an SVG file, but the graphic designer in me goes back to my roots so this is how I’ve always done it.
I did this same technique two Christmases ago when Brielle made an ornament for her teacher.
I chose some contrasting colors and cut it out in an everyday vinyl. I know she’ll love the shirt and probably wear it gardening in the yard! We mailed this to her early due the the quarantine, but look forward to getting a photo of her wearing it with the girls!
