Happy Mother’s Day!

in Celebrations, Crafts & DIY, Home Decor, Mother's Day

As I know my mom is a subscriber to my blog (if you want to be too, just click the “Sign Up” button on the left sidebar and you’ll get an email when I have a new post!) and I know I wouldn’t be seeing her until later today, you can understand why I set this to post to air so late in the day, which is not my usual style. :)

My mom had give me this frame and a stack of pictures from my sister’s wedding last May claiming “make me something“. The pics were all random and way too many of them to fit inside this space, so I decided to sit on this project for a while until I was inspired.

I had been seeing these sculpted circle flowers for a while now and have been wanting to give them a try on something for home decor. I did them on a scrapbook page earlier this year, but of course that was a first attempt, and things tend to always be better the second time around, right? Well this was the perfect opportunity for take two!

I started by freehand cutting circular shapes. I chose this textured paper makes for a fun distressed effect when you rub it with a nail file. I crumbled, sanded and inked the edges for a bit of an aged look. Additionally, I punched out some green cardstock circles, folded in half and repeated the destressed look. These would be my leaves.

I scrapbooked a few of the pictures in the center of the frame. I decided to take out the glass from the frame so that my pieces wasn’t restricted to the 12×12″ surface area of the frame’s boundaries. I used glue dots, 3D dots and brads to hold together these layered circular flowers and placed the in the corners of the frame.

Voila! Here is the finished piece!

Happy Mother’s Day, mom!
