DIY Rustic Table Numbers Tutorial

in Crafts & DIY

You may remember this post, where I introduced Allie and Tim’s Purple and Grey Virginia wedding from this past May. She included a lot of DIY personalized touches, including these rustic table numbers made by her handy hubby. Here’s how they did it:

Find the tree limb and cut slivers of wood for the numbers. They were already planning to cut down a tree limb or two from their yard that spring, so this element is even more meaningful since it came from their house!

Make a stencil for your numbers. Allie used her Cricut machine to print out a set of each number.

Stand the wood sliver up on its side to make sure it will stand on it own and you know which side is the flattest side. Lay the stencil over the wood and use a pencil to trace your number.

Using a wood burning soldering iron, like the Dremel Versa Tip Multipurpose Tool Kit, trace the outline of your number first.

As the tip of their iron has an angled shape, Tim would rotate the wood shape to continue around the sketched line. He tells me if helps to have that outline first as beside burning the wood shape, it of course makes a slight indent which is easier to follow later when filling in the center area.

Once the outline is complete, begin to fill in the center to complete the numbers. Apply 1-2 coats of tongue oil and allow to dry.

Place the numbers at your table so guests can find their seat.
