Childhood safety then & now | spotofteadesigns.com

Every generation thinks they know what’s best for their babies. But as time goes on, studies and experiences support the need to change standards when it comes to keeping our kids safe. I mean look at this, for example:

Childhood safety then & now - In 1982 cribs included fabric bumpers, stuffed animals and blankets, all things that are not suggested now. |spotofteadesigns.com

That’s me as a baby, SURROUNDED by plush blankets, fabric bumpers and stuffed animals in my crib. Thankfully nothing happened to me but this would not fly today. Today, it’s recommended for babies to sleep on their back in a “clean” crib which is free of any blankets, bumpers, stuffed animals or toys.

That’s exactly what we do in our house! You may remember this sweet photo of my then eight month old Brielle in her HALO Innovations SleepSack. We used their SleepSack Swaddles, regular SleepSacks and Early Walker SleepSacks until she was 18 months and finally realized she could unzipped herself out!

Now miss Hailey is rocking the SleepSack Swaddle for a safe sleeping situation. In fact there are lots of things that are different now:

This month is Baby Safety Month and companies, like HALO, are looking to generate awareness about children’s safety.  They are partnering with First Candle to promote their new website GrandparentsTips.org which showcases safety information and advice aimed specifically at grandparents caring for their grandchildren, like their free e-book “A Grandparent’s Guide to a Safe Sleep Over”.

Oh could I change my choice to the early walker in gray pooch? I didn’t see those before. I think that would work much better. ♡
