Throwing a birthday party does not need to be expensive! Consider shopping early, shopping smart and DIYing things instead of buying to save on cost. Follow along as I share 5 easy DIY party hacks I recently used in a styled Shimmer and Shine party.

These party hacks are by no means specific to this party theme so use your imagination and apply them to any theme you choose!
- You can personalize a store bought invite – its ok if you don’t have time or money to get custom printed invites for the party. Consider breaking out your glue pen and crystal fine glitter and add a little sparkle to the store bought invitations!
- DIY a cake plate display – This might be my favorite of the party hacks! While I’m a big fan of white cake stands as they tend to work for most party themes, you can also DIY your own with cheap chargers and glassware. The display for this party was created with 3 gold chargers and different sized colored mason jars glued together with E6000 glue. Together it costs a whopping $4.60 and yet looked great on the dessert table.
- Create a backdrop with plastic tablecloths and a wall setter – A wall setter can make a big impact for a party display and really get the theme across. Flank it backdrop with plastic tablecloths held back with ribbons to add a little texture to a flat back wall.
- DIY napkin rings from cardboard tubes – Wrapping paper tube rolls are sometimes thicker and sturdier than paper towels or toilet paper tubes. For these napkin rings, I cut the tubes, painted them a bright color and bejeweled them to go with the party theme.
- Mix solid colors and printed designs to save cost – Solid plates tend to cost less than the themed printed ones so use the cake plate size of the printed one and layer it on a larger solid design for party food.
