3 Hands On Activities for Toddlers

in Crafts & DIY, Kids' Crafts, Lifestyle, Parenting

DISCLOSURE: I was compensated with a product sample by The Baby Cubby for this post, but the opinions are all mine and not that of the company! The weather is warming up with beautiful flowers and time for the outdoors but sometimes those ugly rainy days get in the way of outdoor play. When those days pop up, I like to have a backup plan of activities to keep my girlies entertained.  I recently put a few of my back up plans in action, all using our newest fun accessory: the EZPZ Flower Play Mat. Check out these 3 fun hands on activities for toddlers!

I have to eyeing this mat for quite some time now. I had heard it was great for both feeding and crafting so I knew it’d be great for Hailey’s messy eating habits and Brielle’s love of painting. An opportunity arose to work with The Baby Cubby, a retail and online shop that cultivates what they believe to be the best products for you the mom and your kids. They carry different versions of these EZPZ mats and I was SO excited to grab two flower designs for my girls for some hands on activities.

Up until now our painting sessions all featured a paper plate full of paints but it was often flipped over by Hailey mid way through painting. Not this time around! I put a little of each color in these petals with a q-tip and let them go to town.

I tried to introduce the concept of each q-tip assigned to each color so there was no mixing. Brielle understood but, of course, Hailey did not. And that’s ok! She still had fun peeking into each petal cup and seeing what was inside.

I look forward to using these same mats with water in the center to practice the whole “washing off your brush” concept that we have yet to try.

A few days later we tried using the mat for a color sorting activity followed by a fine motor skill one. Before you freak out about mixing art materials with food surfaces, know that these mats are dishwasher safe. They were completely cleaned in a dishwasher cycle between these activities!

A pile of Fruit Loops in the center bowl were quickly separated out into colors in each petal (by Brielle).  Fruit Loops are not normally a cereal in our cabinet but I was too scared to give Hailey beads since she’s still little!

A piece of kids crafting shoe lace cord was then used for some threading action.

They both threaded for a while until they realized they were edible and in their mouth the supplies went! (Can you say twinsies?)

The latest activity we tried involved lunchtime and an invitation to play with our EZPZ mat and our beloved personalized Dylbug plates.

On the plate I put a ham and cheese wrap and in each petal cup I put a few fruits, veggies, chips and yes, even some M&Ms.  I’ve made them their fair share of cute food designs on these plates but now they got to make their own creations thanks to this multi mat.

Brielle was a SUPER fan of these hands on activities, especially with this food plate, so I know she’ll be asking to do this one again.

If you want to grab an EZPZ mat for yourself, make sure to check out The Baby Cubby. You can also learn more about their favorite products from their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. PS have a best price guarantee so they will price match!

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
