“Team” logos are always great to help bring a group together and rally around an event, cause or person. Team Eddie did just that. In December, our friend, Laurie, gave birth to her third child, Eddie, prematurely at 29 weeks. From the beginning, it was obvious that little Baby Eddie was a fighter. My brother-in-law, Frank, who became Baby Eddie’s godfather, relayed all the updates to us on his progress in the NICU. Soon we were able to turn to the Prayers for Eddie Facebook Page that was set up and gave updates.

Frank asked me to design a logo he could put on buttons, stickers or t-shirts and help the family become one unit to support Baby Eddie. He said they kept calling him “the fighter” and asked for the logo to include a pair of boxing gloves pounding together and the phrase “Team Eddie.” I designed the above logo and he surprised them with some products ordered through Cafepress.
Baby Eddie continued his fight. Unfortunately days before he was due to be released from the NICU, he contracted RSV, a respiratory disease. He continued to fight and the family continued to rally by his side. Sadly, after 5 weeks of fighting, Baby Eddie lost this fight and we lost a cute little redhead.

Baby Eddie’s mom, Laurie, showed incredible strength at his memorial service, standing up to give a speech she wrote telling how he helped to bring their family closer, their marriage stronger and renewed their sense in their faith. She asked me to revise the logo to add wings for her angel, which is the design seen above.

Laurie and big Eddie continue to honor his memory in any way she can. Their family has signed up to walk in a March for Dimes fundraiser on April 28th. The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
