I claim, by no means, to be an HTML expert. There’s very little I have figured out on my own or know how to do from the minimal web design classes from 10 years ago. As I mentioned recently, I purchased my domain name of Spotofteadesigns.com. Yesterday I spent a little time cleaning my new ‘home” and updating my blog’s appearance online.
Here are a few updates you might notice/enjoy:
- New icons on the left hand side, including new buttons to follow me on Pinterest and Twitter. (still need to figure out how to make sure the colors on those suckers are the same at my blog header!)
- Updated blog topics. For those who enjoy my “use your stash” challenges or “handmade with love” series, you can find all the posts relating to that topic in one click
- A new “Tutorials” category and button was created for easy access to any “how to” style posts I’ve created. Note that these range from baking to crafting to landscaping!
For those reading this update via your email subscriptions, first thanks for being a follower!! But to view these updates, please visit my website directly at Spotofteadesigns.com.
I’m so excited to present my first ever guest post by my good friend Allie!!!
With the name Allison, she was given the nickname “Owlison,” as she has a slight admiration for these cute, trendy animals. For Halloween this year, Allie became inspired by this Owl costume found via Pinterest and she made her own version for a neighborhood party! Take it away Allie!
Supplies:
- Felt Sheets (white, light brown and beige)
- White Feathers
- White Plastic Mask
- XL men’s collared shirt (purchased at Target. I wanted to make sure to have something long. Plus it was less than $5!)
Alter the Shirt:
I cut the stitches out of the collar and pulled the collar out. I also cut off the sleeves. I turned the shirt inside out and my fiance pinned the excess width to the back of the shirt – it actually looked like wings sticking out the back. I also pinned the tops of the shoulders of the sleeves so they would be more like a tank top sleeve instead of a cap sleeve. I pinned down the front button area to make a V. Lastly I pinned the arm holes closed an inch or two more than they were originally.
Decorating the shirt:
A month before Halloween, I made a pattern and cut out many “feathers” from the white, light brown and beige felt. Starting at the bottom, I used fabric glue to attach the feathers to the shirt. Tip: Randomly select colors layer in a brick style pattern.
Mask:
For the mask I cut the eye holes larger and used hot glue to attach a few white feathers.
Wearing the costume:
On the day of the party, I paired my top and mask with a white long-sleeve shirt, tight black pants and black shoes. I was all set to stay warm on this rare October day in which it SNOWED!
A special thanks to Alllie for sharing her ADORABLE Owl Costume with my blog readers!! Isn’t she cute?

Just a quick hello!
I was inspired the other day by Design Sponge’s new blog redesign (check it out here!) and decided to make some updates to my own blog. Nothing big or major right now, just some minor tweaks.
Most importantly, I have moved my favorite links from the left side navigation to a LINKS page that you can find at the top under my banner. Go there to be inspired by other creative souls!
Please let me know if you’re seeing anything appear weird or have any broken links! Thanks!
Hello Bloggers! Welcome to my first post introducing designs on Spot of Tea Designs Bear (bare?) with me as I get the hang of this blogging thing! In case you were wondering, I decided to start this blog to print a little glimpse into the background stories behind the designs featured on my site and things that I make.
I began designing on cafepress for a friend’s fourth of July party in which they want a custom tshirt design (now adapted to the Fourth of July design. The following year I came out with this little number: Eat Drink Throw Shoes printed on coozies. The design was a hit and so I decided to put it up on a free Cafepress site for fun. Well when people started buying my design, I thought it was so odd and funny that someone liked my design! Soon after I started adding others until I had to purchase an upgraded account which ultimately leads me to where I am today!
3 years later I have designs in 31 US states and 8 countries around the world! Hope you enjoy hearing the stories and seeing the updates on my newest designs!
